Design Feedback
· Very detailed, shows all the different parts and how they are connected
· Shows how the implant is fixed into the femur and pelvis, very nice visuals
· Not entirely clear what the function of the indents on the acetabular cup is
· Includes that materials cannot be heavy since patient has osteoporosis, relates directly to patients' profile, great point!
· Not sure if a shorter femoral stem would be better for patient with osteoporosis
Final Design

Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of your refined concept solution
· Advantage: Have a longer stem as patient with osteoporosis has weak bones which are more prone to fractures because of its low density, and having a longer stem also helps support the bone so it does not break
· Advantage: Attach components above the stem (acetabular cup, liner) as one to prevent clotting and ensure more smoothness in motion
· Disadvantage: Since the acetabular cup, liner ll are all attached and structured together, if one part of it breaks you must replace the whole component which could be very costly
· Disadvantage: Using metal could potentially be too heavy for bones with osteoporosis
Discuss the extent to which your refined concept solution addresses the need statement
· The hip implant will allow Diane Chambers to be more active and be able to play with her grandchildren
· It will decrease the pain she feels when walking, allowing her to stop taking Prednisone
· The new ball and cup will restore the joint spacing from the cartilage she lost and will prevent stiffness and rubbing
